Known as the ‘land of fire and ice’, __________ is the most active volcanic region in the world. Its dramatic and wild landscape captures a fascinating combination of active volcanoes, towering glaciers, lava fields, craters, powerful spouting geysers, rising mountains, thundering waterfalls, glacial flood plains and hot springs. It is the second largest island in Europe with the northern most point of its mainland extending to within a few 100 metres of the Arctic Circle. A highlight of __________ is the clear Arctic light, which shines almost continuously throughout the summer months. You will also get the chance to visit the Blue Lagoon, a geothermal spa whose steamy waters are surrounded by a surreal landscape of black lava. Or you could try some fresh caught fish prepared traditionally by either pickling in fermented whey or brine or drying and smoking.
