Putting the Fun in Fundraising

Sorry, this image is not available. Most teams like to organize a handful of fundraisers, as well as plan a few nights out together where they get to have fun and bond as a group.  This past April, the Upper Dublin team did both in one night!

What’s the angle?  The team wanted to hold a fundraiser at a place they knew had built-in appeal.  After throwing around a few ideas the team decided on BounceU, a local funhouse that offers tons of activities such as basketball, blow up rides, etc.

How did they pull it off?  The team contacted BounceU and offered to round up as many friends as they could in exchange for a cut of the ticket profit.  BounceU agreed to give them $7 for each ticket (the ticket cost was $12 – not a bad deal!).  The team decided to hold it on a Friday night, when they knew everyone would be free, and started inviting everyone at their school.

To add onto their earnings, they took shifts selling candy, drinks, and soft pretzels in BounceU’s lobby.  Their teacher, Ms. D’Amico, was nice enough to help out at the concession stand.  In between shifts they got to hang out with their friends and enjoy the amazing night, and ended up earning over $420!

Congratulations Upper Dublin, you’re our Team of the Month!

Want to get a piece of the action?  Upper Dublin’s fundraiser had an unbeatable recipe for success.  If you want to earn expedition bucks on a Friday night, here’s how to get organized…

  1. See if BounceU has a location near you.  If they don’t, research other local businesses that offer similiar facilities.  Contact them about setting up an event, and make sure they’re happy to give you a cut of the profits.
  2. Set a date and time.  Upper Dublin held theirs on a Friday night, which is definitely a good choice – you’ll get more of your classmates to attend if it’s on the weekend.  Whatever date you choose – check the school calendar and make sure it doesn’t conflict with any big games or events!
  3. Think extras. Upper Dublin supplemented their tickets sales by selling concessions.  If your team would like to do this as well, make sure you organize shifts (no one wants to get stuck selling soda all night!) and have a good estimate of the amount of supplies you’ll need.
  4. Sell tickets.  Though you’ll make some extra money from concessions, the bulk of the money is going to come from ticket sales.  Put up posters at school, make sure all of your friends are going, do your best make it THE event to go to that night.
  5. Have fun!  The great thing about this event is that once you’ve done your work selling tickets, you really just get to have a fun night out with your friends.  So celebrate your hard work and make sure everyone’s having a great time!
